What does 10x50 mean in binoculars?
The first number indicates the magnification and the second number is the size of the objective lenses, as measured in millimeters. (The objective lenses are the large lenses that you point toward your target, rather than the smaller eyepieces that you look through.) The greater the magnification, the nearer and larger the object will appear, whereas the larger the objective lenses, the more light the binoculars can gather. More light allows the binoculars to see fainter objects and to see more detail.
How far can you see with 10x50 binoculars?
The short answer is “just a little bit further than your eyes!” Binoculars will enlarge anything you can see with your own eyes, giving you the ability to see details that you might otherwise miss. However, since the view is magnified, they can also show you objects that are a little more distant than you can see with just your eyes alone. That said, you can see as far as your unobstructed view will allow you; if you have a clear, unobstructed view of the horizon, you may be able to see buildings that are miles away. On any clear night, however, you can see stars and other objects that are light-years away!
Are these night vision binoculars?
Unfortunately, they are not true infrared night vision binoculars, but the multi-coated anti-reflection optics allow for greater light transmission and make it easy to observe objects on either the ground or in the night sky. For example, these binoculars are an excellent choice for studying the Moon, as well as comets, larger star clusters, and nebulae, and can even reveal the four largest moons of Jupiter.
